Submit Your Miami Story

July 24, 2017

  • HistoryMiami Museum, a non-profit organization, safeguards and shares Miami stories to foster learning, inspire a sense of place, and cultivate an engaged community. Established in 2009, the Miami Stories initiative collects stories about Miami’s past, present, and future. Through this oral history project, HistoryMiami Museum documents life in the Magic City through written stories, video submissions, and audio recordings, which are preserved in the museum’s archive, and shared online and through local media outlets. I hereby agree to grant, assign, and transfer my Miami Story to HistoryMiami Museum. I knowingly and voluntarily permit HistoryMiami Museum full use of the story for scholarly and educational purposes, including for the purposes listed below. Stories may be: used for educational and research purposes at HistoryMiami Museum; displayed online on HistoryMiami Museum’s web page; displayed on HistoryMiami Museum’s various social media accounts (YouTube, Twitter, Instagram); published in the Miami Herald and other news outlets; and broadcast on radio shows for educational purposes.

The real take-away of my story-The Compound- is “These small fragments of Miami history might be lost, forgotten if not pieced together for readers and kept in the archives of History Miami”. and “For those years The Compound housed creative, talented Herald writers”. It combines the creative writing style of the Miami Herald then, with a historic Miami address.

Karin Stahl’s “Santa at Burdines…” in Sunday’s paper was a delightful read! It also prompted me to send a photo printed December 17, 1961 in the Miami News of Santa in Burdines. The photo of Santa is Frank Booth, my husband, who was working for Burdines at the time.
