SOLD OUT Architecture & History in the Grove Walking Tour

Saturday Jan 21, 2017 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Members: $20, Non-Members: $30

Learn the secrets of early Coconut Grove, the Village by the Bay, and the sailors and settlers from the Bahamas who built a village in a tropical wilderness. The tour will focus on the history and architecture of the area which has gone through many transitions through the decades. The Grove has attracted sea lovers, artists, naturalists, millionaires – each contributing to its unique identity – setting it apart from the rest of Miami. Stops will include the 1891 historic home of pioneer Ralph Monroe, the Barnacle, and Peacock Park – a focal point of the counterculture movement in 1960s. Also included will be iconic historical architecture such as the Pan Am Terminal, Coconut Grove Women’s Club, and the Pagoda at Ransom School. For a close look at a unique community continually threatened by the urban sprawl of Miami the tour will cover parts of the Bahamian Grove with a rich history and historic homes of some of Miami’s first settlers.

*No audio or video photography, please. Please note that there are no refunds or exchanges. Onsite registration will incur a $10 per person surcharge. Rates subject to change.
