Genealogy 101

This free, member’s workshop, hosted by HistoryMiami Museum, lays the foundation of how to research and build your family tree.  It introduces you to authoritative sources and teaches how to decipher good information from bad.  Organizational techniques and genealogical standards are also discussed. Your leader will be professional Genealogist, Tamara Hallo, MLS.

  • Where and how to start your family tree
  • Create a research plan
  • Know what basic sources and repositories to use to begin building a family tree
  • Perform a basic search on FamilySearch.com

Croom, Emily Anne.  Unpuzzling Your Past:  The Best Selling Basic Guide to Genealogy.  4th edition.  (Cincinnati, OH:  Betterway Books, 2001).

Tamara Hallo, MLS

Tamara Hallo is an educator, librarian and genealogist.  She has over 20 years of experience as an educator and holds a Master of Library Science degree.  Genealogy is her passion and a perfect complement to her repertoire.  She has earned a certificate of genealogical research from Boston University and has completed ProGen, an 18-month professional genealogy study program. 
Tamara is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the Genealogical Speakers Guild (GSG) and the National Genealogical Society (NGS), she specializes in Southern United States and Miami, Florida research.
