Explore one calendar year of expressive traditions in South Florida’s Haitian community. Award-winning photographers Carl Juste, Pablo Monsivais and Andre Chung focus on a cross-section of leading traditional Haitian artists and their art forms, offering a view of expressive life in South Florida rarely represented in mass media coverage of the community. Discover the relationship between traditional arts and the community’s religious and festive events. Featured traditions are fè koupe (steel drum sculpture), woodcarving, sewing, cooking, baking, drumming, dancing, singing, poetry, kite-making and children’s games.
Organized by HistoryMiami (formerly the Historical Museum of Southern Florida).
