WHITMAN FAMILY GALLERY

This gallery tells the story of over 100 years of a pioneering Miami Beach family whose influence is still prominent throughout the city of Miami. the Whitman family’s accomplishments range from innovations in the fields of marine recreation and horticulture to commercial real estate ventures such as “The Whitman” Art Deco hotel in 1935 and Bal Harbour Shops in 1965.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view photographs and objects related to the Whitman Family as it relates to popular culture and Miami history, such as the first underwater movie camera case patented by the Whitmans and used in the 1952 Oscar-winning documentary film, “The Sea Around Us;” wooden surf boards; and one of the first fiberglass production boats built in the Southeast.
